About
The 1st Valley of the Ghosts Music Fest was on July 14, 2018 in beautiful, historic Sandon, BC in the heart of the Kootenays. Due to the success of the 1st Ghost Fest we decided to make this an annual Kootenay event the 2nd weekend of July.
WHAT INSPIRED THIS MUSIC FESTIVAL - Sandon residents, Hal Wright (47 year resident) & Vida Turok (3 year resident and only female) love music, love dancing and found it a challenge during the busy summer season to enjoy the local Kootenay music scene. One Saturday night while listening to CBC Vinyl Tap and Holger Petersen Blues we thought wouldn't it be cool to have live music come to Sandon so we could invite locals to come and enjoy an evening presenting local Kootenay musicians. Vida contacted her favourite Kootenay musicians and friends Ruckus & Baker Street Blues and scheduled them to perform on the evening of July 14, 2018 in Sandon. At first it was only going to be a few bands, BYOB, potluck dinner, some camping, etc.....then while enjoying the music of The Water Street Blues in Kaslo at Buddy's Pizza where we connected with Bub Patience (former Kaslo Jazz Fest organizer and musician) and shared our ambitions for a intimate evening of music in Sandon; Bub right away got excited and said let's make this a MUSIC FEST! I will be the band coordinator. We literally had 2 months to organize a music fest in Sandon and we did it!!! The VoftheG is also a fundraiser for the Sandon Benevolent Fund - to raise money for much needed restoration of the remaining historic buildings & artifacts in Sandon. We receive NO grants or sponsorships - supporting Sandon is purely by donation, passion for history and hard work!
The VoftheG Music Festival is a family friendly event!!!
The VoftheG features only local Kootenay talent as there are so many amazing musicians throughout the Kootenays including local food vendors (X-Treme Grilled Cheeze, TastyTime Vegan Eatery, Senor Bobs Taco Taco) and specialized brewed beer from Angry Hen Brewing in Kaslo, BC.
Sandon, BC is the perfect venue to host a music festival due to the layout of the land - the acoustics are amazing. Sandon is nestled in a mountainous valley with a flowing creek running through it and thousands of fir, hemlock, poplar and cedar trees. Lots of green space for camping. Access to numerous mountain biking, hiking, ATVing roads/trails and a 12 km forest road to the famous Idaho Peak lookout (which BTW road usually opens between July 7 - 12). Most importantly the 123 year old history - please visit Sandon in the Kootenays for more information.
To purchase tickets for this years music festival go to the VoftheG Ticket page.
Volunteers are extremely important for the success of the VoftheG Music Festival - if you would like to volunteer please fill out the application form on the gHOST Volunteer page.
If you are a Kootenay musician please email VoftheG please include your contact info as well as band info (style of music) and any recordings that showcase your music.
If you are a food vendor please email VoftheG or go to the VoftheG Vendor page.
